Baby bed mattresses are a vital piece of nursery equipment that not only needs to be comfortable and clean, but also safe. Although choosing the right baby mattresses may seem like an easy task it can become quite daunting when the choices become clear. The mattresses need to be the right size, and fit to ensure that baby cannot become trapped. They also have to be in the right material so the mattress can be easily cleaned, and the baby will not become too hot.
There are many different things that need to be considered when looking at baby bed mattresses, and if they are all researched well the decision may become easier. Mattresses have improved a great deal over the last few years, and they are now far safer. At one time the materials that baby mattresses were made from could be toxic. Many parents were placing their babies down to sleep not knowing that they were potentially putting them at risk.
The foam that the mattresses were made from we’re giving of lethal toxins that babies were breathing in. Today the manufacturers have improved the materials that baby mattresses are made from making them far safer. However, there are still many things that parents can do to ensure that their baby is kept safe. If possible parents should never use secondhand or damaged baby bed mattresses as these are more likely to harm the baby. They may be weakened, less supportive, and contain elements that are unsafe.
When fitting the baby mattresses they should fit well with no gaps at all down any of the sides. People often believe that baby bed mattresses need to be soft, and comfortable this is far from the truth. In fact babies will sleep far better supported on a good quality firm mattress, which helps to support their full body. The outer covering on the mattress needs to be in good condition, and easily cleaned.
Many of the baby bed mattresses available have a vinyl covering to ensure that the inner core does not become damaged by spills and accidents. Cleaning the mattress often will stop bacteria forming which could harm the baby. There are three main types of baby mattresses that can be purchased for the crib. These are foam, spring interior, and hypoallergenic. They all have different benefits, and parents need to look at all of the points before purchasing.
Foam mattresses are often the cheapest, and can come in different sizes. Heavier foam baby mattresses are often made from better quality foam, and the foam should spring back when pushed down. Foam baby bed mattresses are often lighter than other alternative making them far easier to clean, make, and move. Spring interior baby mattresses are made with coiled springs, and covered with a protective material.
Often one side of the baby mattresses are made from cotton, and the other with a wipe clean material. These mattresses tend to be more expensive than foam varieties, however, are very popular. Hypoallergenic mattresses are perfect for parents who are concerned with allergies, and want a natural fiber alternative. This style of baby bed mattresses will last a long time, however, they are harder to find, and cost more than foam mattresses.

Many moms and dads especially those who are just newly weds and first time to have a baby, have a common question of asking whether it is safe or not to provide their infant a baby pillow. Well, there are many people who have experienced dealing with their newborns who believe that it’s unsafe to use a baby pillow especially if the baby will just be left in the crib. Some babies may also have allergies on fabric that’s why sometimes it’s not good to use baby pillow. However, there are different fabrics that are hypoallergenic which are applicable for a baby pillow.
With these fabrics, the baby will not be exposed to any allergens. These fabrics are best materials for a baby pillow. Many companies are already using these kinds of fabrics as they have already considered this concern of so many parents about using a baby pillow for their little angel.
There are different designs of baby pillow which may also be safe for infants even if they are being left alone in the crib. These designs are so comfortable and safe for the baby. There are some designs of a baby pillow that allows a perfect and correct positioning of baby’s head, thus avoiding a baby to be suffocated. These are designed ergonomically. There are designs that don’t build up so much heat thus giving the required coolness for the baby.
The different designs for a baby pillow are really cute and come out so attractive for babies and even to older ones. There are designs that come with a rabbit shape, with ruffles on the sides, with a cat shape and a lot more. These designs are perfectly fit for a baby pillow.
It’s also best if a baby pillow comes in different light colors. This would allow seeing any dirt or stain or any foreign material that would stick to the pillow easily. It is significant for moms and dads and even other adults in the house to be cautious about the different things related to the baby. It’s worthy to note that babies are so sensitive from the skin to the entire body. Each and every baby should be given extra attention as babies are so vulnerable to any matters all around.
So mom and dad take cautions in choosing the best baby pillow for your little angel. Hope you make the right choice.

Baby Bedding: Which Ones Are a Necessity?

Preparing for your baby’s room is definitely exciting and requires a lot of attention. Babies need extra care and this includes what they would have for when they sleep. During the first months, this is highly important because it is during this time that babies sleep the most. So, it is okay to fuss around and give so much attention with baby bedding. Of course, with all that excitement and once you see the cute little baby beddings out there, you might overlook the ones that you actually need versus that ones that does look cute but are not really needed. So before you go out and shop for all the cute things that you see for your baby, make sure that you have these baby bedding necessities first:
1. Fitted Crib Sheet
The fitted crib sheet is your baby’s bed sheet. This is very important because this will be where your baby would be laying down often. Therefore, you must invest in this type of baby bedding. Take into consideration which fabric would be best for your child especially if your baby has known allergies to specific fibres. In addition, take into consideration the room temperature in your baby’s room because if this fitted crib sheet would not be able to provide enough warmth or would make it too hot for your baby, this could cause various sickness. Remember your baby’s back would be on this fitted sheet almost all day and all night long, and baby’s are extra sensitive because their immune system has not yet fully developed.
2. Receiving Blanket
The receiving blanket is what you use to wrap around your baby. For newborn babies, these are used almost everywhere such as when going out, around the home and even during sleep. So this is one baby bedding that you must also take particular attention on. Since this is wrapped around your baby, make sure as well that the receiving blanket that you get is hypoallergenic. Also, it might be best to get 2 sets which you would use for day and night since daytime has a warmer temperature while night time has a cooler temperature.
For both of these essential baby beddings, it is highly recommended that you purchase a lot of these because you would need to change these frequently. Since this is in the most proximity with your baby and your baby would need these practically the entire day and night, it would get soiled easily. These could come from vomit, leaky diapers or your baby’s saliva. In any case, you would need to change both of these often. So before you buy all the other baby bedding accessories, make sure that you have a huge stock of both of these baby beddings.

Baby Bedding: Which Ones Are a Necessity?
mum with newborn baby has harsh words for interferring grandma

A new grandparent can be a good source of help when the right advice and enough support is given. However many families fall out because what a grandma forgets is that its not her baby but that its only a grandchild.
Lets look at how some overhelping hands from an eager grandparent can turn into an argument.
Nanna takes charge!
”This is the way you get the baby’s wind up Carol”,
Taking baby straight from mum and showing her. This is no way to get respect, you aren’t even giving her the chance.
Alternative way is “Carol if you find it hard just gives us a yell and ill have a go for you”.Notice the grandparent remians unobtrusive in her approach, a much better way.
Mum takes baby in pram into a coldback garden to rock her to sleep without any blanket on.
Nanny Takes charge!
“Carol get that baby a blanket on.Carol do it now before she catches cold”
Alternative way Nanna could always ask “did the health visitor give you guidelines for keeping baby warm without putting too many blankets on”.oh she hasnt got one shall i fetch you one at least to keep the chill off her. This way she is asking for approval before getting a blanket. This way makes mum think is baby warm enough without being nagged at by nanna.
Being a good grandparent the easy way without causing friction, in just 7 easy steps.
- Give the new mum sound advice about a newborn grandchild without seeming to be interfering.
- Don’t offer to show her how to old her newborn baby let mum learn for herself.
- Don’t take over if the dad wants a try his hand at bathing the newbaby etc it will knock his self confidence.
- Offer to do chores at her house whilst she tends to the baby, but offer to take over caring for the little one if she wants to take a nap.
- Remember don’t get carried away by being to fussy, wanting to take over as the mother figure is not good, its her newborn baby after all.
- Be there at the end of the phone when she needs to ask you what to do, but don’t rush over and take over. Being a new mum is also about learning to do things your self but with good support from family.
- Offer your baby sitting services once in a while ie send her a greeting card with voucher for 2 baby sitting nights in.

6 New Mom Tips to Help You Keep Your Sanity

It is 2:00am and your baby is up, wide awake, and wants to play. Your heart is full of love, but your body cannot keep up! What a precious gift you have been given, but what you would not give at times for a few minutes of rest.
Being a new mom is the most rewarding job in the world and the most exhausting job in the world, all at the very same time. In order to be the best mom you can be to your new little one, you must take care of yourself.
Here are 6 tips to help you new moms keep your sanity:
- Sleep. All the baby books you have read say this, but let me reemphasize, you need to rest when your baby is resting. Not only will you feel recharged, but taking care of yourself will help you take better care of your baby. Plus, you will have an easier time accomplishing anything if you are not a zombie.
- Take care of you. This is in addition to getting sleep whenever possible. Schedule time for yourself daily. This may include getting a shower, going for a walk, meditating, or just reading some of your favorite book. It is extremely important to not forget yourself during this time, difficult as that may sound, you will feel stronger and more ready to take on anything if you are taking care of yourself.
- Plan your meals. You must plan ahead what you are going to eat. We tend to make quick (often poor) decisions on meals when we leave that decision until the last minute. Prep salads, veggies, fruits ahead of time for a quick snack. Make larger quantities of meals you enjoy and freeze them.
- Baskets, baskets and more baskets. A basket can look glamorous while also being a great way to gather things like, books, toys and baby bedding. Putting a “catch-all” basket in a high traffic area of the house can be a great tool to catch items that belong elsewhere. Rather than return each item one at a time, you can gather all the items and return them in the same trip.
- Feeding station. My definition of a “feeding station” is the place where you most that you will need/want during the time you will be feeding your child. Possible things to make sure are in the area: burp rag, feeding pillow, glass of water, good book/magazine, phone, blanket, etc. It is basically a collection of things that will help make you and baby more comfortable during this time.
- Write it down. Any thoughts, ideas, dreams that cross your mind, write them down. We are so focused on our little one that the great thought we have one minute will quickly disappear and quite possibly not return. Many call this “Mommy Brain”.
Make sure to keep things simple; simple meals, simple days, and simple expectations. Enjoy every second, even the ones where you can barely keep your eyes open!
